NEWSTART Lifestyle Cookbook
by Sally J. Christensen and Frances Piper de Vries
NEWSTART Lifestyle Cookbook
comes to us from Weimar Institute. Weimar has been around since the 1970's,
helping people recover from heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes,
and the like using a lifestyle approach. The "N" in the acronym NEWSTART
stands for proper Nutrition, an important component of Weimar's treatment
program.
The subtitle of this cookbook says, More
Than 260 Heart-Healthy Recipes Featuring Whole Plant Foods.
Eight sections cover breads, breakfasts, desserts, gravies and sauces,
main dishes, salads and sandwiches, soups and vegetables, and helpful hints.
Two characteristics may be noted about the recipes: They're vegan (total vegetarian) and
they avoid the use of refined cooking oils and refined sugars.
Twelve endorsements adorn its back cover and its first page. Dean Ornish,
M.D., of the Preventative Medicine Research Institute had this to say:
... full of delicious and nutritious recipes that can make
a meaningful difference in your life.
Cory SerVaas, M.D., Editor-in-chief and publisher of The Saturday
Evening Post, said:
I am a firm believer in the health concepts behind the delicious
recipes found in NEWSTART Lifestyle Cookbook.
I wish everyone in America would take this book to heart — literally.
Then there's endorsements by Robert Pritikin, Larry Burkett, Dr. Bill Bright,
T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D., and Dr. Raymond and Dorothy Moore. These folk
are pretty well known in some circles.
Here's just one more from Mark Sklar, M.D., a researcher at Georgetown
University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.:
